AI and prop firms: improve the workflow before chasing an edge
Rule reviews, journals and operational checks are useful starting points for automation.
Read the contract before configuring a tool
An AI assistant can help turn a long rulebook into a draft checklist. It cannot guarantee that the checklist is complete or that the firm will accept your interpretation. Check every important item against the current contract and keep the relevant written answer from the provider.
Separate permission to run an Expert Advisor from permission to use external signals, trade copying or a shared strategy. Some firms permit automation while restricting one or more of those behaviours. Your exact programme and account type matter.
Start with reviewable operational tasks
Useful applications include organising a trading journal, grouping execution errors and comparing an account configuration with a checklist. Preserve the underlying evidence. A generated summary should let you locate the actual signal, order record or rule it refers to.
Avoid giving a general-purpose model discretionary access to place orders simply because it can write a convincing market narrative. Language quality does not prove that a model has a durable trading advantage.
Test the account, not just the algorithm
Check the firm’s daily reset time, treatment of floating losses, trailing drawdown, holding restrictions and news rules. Test the terminal connection and understand what happens when a request is rejected. Account protections are not a guarantee that a limit cannot be breached.
